If you’ve ever gone out for dinner and found yourself staring at a menu that tries to do everything—pizzas, noodles, full English breakfasts, sushi and Sunday roasts—you’ll know that slightly uneasy feeling. You can’t help but think, “Can they really be good at all of this?”
The same applies to photography. I know it might sound a bit odd, but choosing a boudoir photographer is a lot like choosing the right restaurant. You wouldn’t expect a curry house to whip up a perfect bowl of pasta, and you probably wouldn’t ask your local corner café to deliver a Michelin-starred tasting menu (although I’m sure someone’s nan somewhere is proving me wrong as we speak!). The point is: expertise matters.
When it comes to boudoir photography, it's not just about clicking a button—it’s about trust, connection, experience, and knowing exactly how to bring out the very best in you. And that’s not something you’ll get from someone who’s only just added boudoir to their long list of services.
Boudoir is not just another genre of photography—it’s an experience, a transformation, a powerful moment of reconnection. It’s deeply personal and emotional, especially for women who haven’t felt beautiful in years or have been taught to hide, shrink, or criticise their bodies. You don’t just need someone with a camera—you need someone who knows how to see you.
I’ve been a specialist boudoir photographer for over 20 years. That means I’ve dedicated my professional life to understanding how women feel about their bodies, how to pose real women (not models), and how to create an environment that feels safe, supportive, and empowering.
You wouldn’t believe how many clients walk into my studio saying, “I’m not photogenic,” or “I’ll do it once I’ve lost a bit of weight.” And you wouldn’t believe the tears (happy ones!) that follow when they see just how beautiful they already are—right now, as they are.
That kind of emotional shift doesn’t happen by accident. It takes experience, sensitivity, and the ability to guide someone gently but confidently through the process. And honestly? That’s not something you can master by offering boudoir once in a blue moon in between newborn shoots and weddings.
When I started Lone Barn Boudoir, I knew I didn’t want to be a “jack-of-all-trades” photographer. My heart was in helping women see themselves with fresh eyes. Over the years, my clients have ranged in age from 30 to 74, and they’ve come to me for all sorts of reasons—divorce, milestone birthdays, menopause, illness, weight changes, new relationships, or simply because they’re tired of waiting for the ‘right time.’
Many arrive at my studio nervous, unsure, and full of self-doubt. And that’s okay. That’s why I’ve created a completely women-only, luxury space where you can breathe, relax, laugh, and even have a bit of a cry if you need to. You’ll be pampered, guided every step of the way, and never left wondering “what do I do with my hands?!”
Over the years, I’ve photographed well over 1,000 women and every single one has brought something unique and beautiful to the experience. You don’t get that kind of insight by dabbling. You get it by committing to the craft—and the people.
I see so many photographers adding boudoir as an “extra” service, offering a handful of rushed sessions in a hotel room once a year. But this is your moment—it shouldn’t feel like an afterthought. When boudoir is treated as a box-ticking exercise, the results show. The posing isn’t quite right. The lighting’s a bit harsh. The energy feels awkward. Worst of all, the client walks away thinking they did something wrong.
You deserve better than that. You deserve a photographer who knows how to make you look and feel your absolute best—who has spent decades perfecting the lighting, styling, posing and experience just for women like you.
One of the biggest differences between a generalist and a specialist is the mindset. In boudoir, I’m not here to ‘hide’ your flaws—I’m here to show you that your so-called flaws are just part of the story that makes you you. The curve of your hip, the laugh lines around your eyes, the strength in your thighs… it’s all part of your beauty.
And because I specialise in working with real women of all shapes, sizes, ages and stories, I know how to pose you in ways that flatter and celebrate without making you feel stiff or overly posed. The result? Images that feel like you—but the version of you who’s glowing with confidence.
So, if you’re thinking about booking a boudoir shoot (or maybe you’ve been quietly browsing for a while), take a moment to really think about who you want guiding you through the experience. Look at their portfolio—really look. Do you see women who look like you? Do they seem relaxed, happy, radiant? Does the photographer talk about confidence, empowerment, and transformation—or just the technical stuff?
Choosing the right photographer is about more than ticking boxes. It’s about choosing someone who understands what this moment means to you. Someone who’ll make you feel like the star of your own story. Someone who won't try to serve you pasta in a curry house.
